Is Your iPad Still Under Warranty? and i99Repair

I am usually the one who is called when something goes wrong with an iPad in our school district.  One iPad resource that I have found helpful lately in dealing with some of these problems is theipadguide.  The first page I often go to is their quick article, "How can I check if my iPad is covered under warranty" because that is one of the most common questions I get about iPads.  The site also has some great FAQs, forums, an accessory guide and more helpful articles.

We have also priced some iPad repair services.  Some local; others out-of-state.  One name that has popped up lately and really looks promising is i99Repair out of Idaho.  Their site has an online chat where you can ask questions, and they have a simple step-by-step process for repairs:

  1. You just pick your device, such as iPad Repair,
  2. Select a device and model,
  3. Select a repair service needed (such as iPad 2 Black Screen Repair) and add it to the Cart.
  4. Review your shopping cart and proceed to checkout.  Choose to check out as a guest or register for an account for faster checkouts next time.
  5. Choose your return shipping options for when they finish the repair.  It is all paid up front, which I like.
  6. After you have submitted your payment, you are taken to the Shipping page with How and Where to ship your device.
  7. You can e-mail, call or chat with them if you have questions.  You can pay via PayPal or any major credit card.
According to their site, turnaround time is extremely fast!  All of their parts and labor carry a one-year warranty.  Another thing I really like about them is that they offer free return shipping.  You must pay your own shipping to get it there, but they cover shipping back to you.

I know you're thinking about cost and how it compares to such local services as The Pod Drop, which I also like.  We mostly have iPad 2s, so I priced a cracked screen repair for a black and a white iPad 2 of $79.99 through i99Repair (not including shipping to them). This price was about double at The Pod Drop, and much more than that at the Apple Store.  Over $200, in fact.  So, as I say, i99Repair looks and sounds very promising, and I will keep you posted as we start to use it.  If anyone has tried them yet, please let me know what you have found (good or bad).  We're all looking for some good resources that truly deliver.

  2. I read a couple bad things about i99repair, saying that the owner is rude and its a one man shop ran out of someone's home. they received an F rating from the BBB and if you Google their name you will find some very unhappy customers and one very rude unprofessional owner.
